US President Donald Trump has lashed out at the Grammy Awards and threatened legal action against host Trevor Noah following a controversial joke made during the live broadcast.
In a post on his Truth Social account shortly after the ceremony, Trump described the awards show as “virtually unwatchable” and labelled Noah “a total loser,” accusing him of making false and defamatory statements on air.
The outrage followed a joke Noah made while presenting Song of the Year. The host quipped that the award was coveted by artists “almost as much as Trump wants Greenland,” before adding, “since Epstein’s gone, he needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton.” The remark referenced disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and his private Caribbean island linked to s£xual abuse allegations.
Reacting strongly, Trump wrote:
“The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable!”
He also took a swipe at CBS, saying the network was fortunate to no longer have such “garbage” on its airwaves, and compared Noah unfavourably to Jimmy Kimmel.
Addressing the Epstein reference directly, Trump added:
“Noah said, INCORRECTLY about me, that Donald Trump and Bill Clinton spent time on Epstein Island. WRONG!!! I can’t speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight’s false and defamatory statement, have never been accused of being there, not even by the Fake News Media.”
The remarks have sparked fresh debate online over comedy, defamation, and political satire at major award shows.
