“I Can’t Walk or Speak Well Again” ~ Toyin Lawani Accuses Lagos Hospital

Popular fashion designer and entrepreneur, Toyin Lawani, has called out a Lagos-based private hospital, Euracare, over what she described as serious complications after a surgery.

The Tiannah Empire boss shared her painful experience on Instagram, saying she went to the hospital for spine surgery but later lost the use of her legs and suffered a lung infection, despite spending close to ₦100 million on medical bills.

According to Lawani, her condition worsened after the surgery. She said she could no longer walk properly or speak clearly and had to undergo several emergency procedures. At one point, she stopped breathing and doctors reportedly had to puncture her lungs, which she said damaged her vocal cords.

She explained that after being discharged, she lost the use of her legs and had to return to the same hospital. A doctor from the UK later advised another surgery to remove a tube from her lungs so she could breathe on her own.

Lawani said she later travelled to the United Kingdom with her family, where doctors discovered serious infection and lumps in her lungs, requiring yet another surgery. She said she is still going in and out of the hospital till today.

The designer warned that she plans to take legal action against the hospital when she regains full strength, accusing the facility of mismanaging her health and still demanding payment.

Her outburst came shortly after writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie accused the same hospital of negligence linked to her son’s death. Following Chimamanda’s allegation, the Lagos State Government ordered an investigation into the hospital.
