A Nigerian man who reportedly travelled abroad to enlist in the Russian Army has been killed while fighting in the ongoing war against Ukraine.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been officially disclosed. Reports indicate that he left his family in Nigeria to join the Russian military amid the prolonged conflict.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the Nigerian’s death in a brief social media post on Monday, stating that he was killed in combat. No further details were provided.
The incident comes shortly after reports that a 28-year-old Kenyan national, Clinton Nyapara Mogesa, was also killed while fighting for Russian forces in eastern Ukraine.
According to Ukraine Defence Intelligence, Mogesa died during combat operations in the Donetsk region. His body was reportedly discovered by Ukrainian forces at a former Russian position after an assault.
Authorities said Mogesa had been living and working in Qatar before travelling to Russia, where he allegedly received minimal training before being deployed to the battlefield. He was said to be assigned to an assault unit operating in eastern Ukraine, an area that has seen intense fighting and heavy casualties.
The Nigerian man is believed to be among several foreign nationals recruited by Russia, either through direct enlistment or inducements such as promises of financial rewards, residency, or other benefits.
The deaths have renewed concerns over the recruitment of foreign fighters into the conflict and the risks faced by those drawn into the war.
