Renowned relationship coach and lead pastor of David Christian Centre, Kingsley Okonkwo, has defended the Bible-inspired tattoo on his arm, describing it as a modern tool for evangelism rather than a contradiction of faith.
The tattoo, revealed in a video shared on his official Instagram page on Saturday to mark his 50th birthday, bears the scripture John 3:16 written in Roman numerals — III: XVI. The clip opens with a voice-over of the verse, one of the most central and widely quoted messages in the Christian faith.
Reacting to the mixed responses that followed, Pastor Okonkwo addressed critics in a Facebook post on Sunday, noting that many were quick to judge the tattoo but missed the larger impact.
“My religious brothers and sisters were busy judging over tattoo; they didn’t notice that the gospel (John 3:16) was preached to millions in 24hrs by almost all blogs,” he wrote.
The pastor’s response has since sparked conversations online about unconventional methods of spreading the gospel, personal conviction, and the balance between tradition and contemporary expression in Christianity.
