Kunle Afolayan Advises Men to marry many Women, Explains Why

Renowned Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan stirred conversations after making candid remarks about family, roots, and legacy during his movie watch party.

Speaking emotionally, Afolayan said he never forgets where he comes from, noting that his late father’s presence is still deeply felt in his life and work.

“Whenever I look around, I see my father everywhere. Without him, there would be no KAP Village, there would be no Kunle Afolayan,” he said.

The award-winning director revealed that he is the seventh child in a very large family, explaining that his father had many wives — or was involved with many women, adding that he is not even certain how many were officially married.

While acknowledging that such a lifestyle often attracts criticism, Afolayan said it remains his personal reality.

In a moment that sparked strong reactions in the room, he openly advised that men should marry many women — or at least be involved with many women, stressing that his own existence is tied to that family structure.

“If my father didn’t live that life, I wouldn’t be here,” he stated plainly.

Despite the complexities of their upbringing, Afolayan said some of the children are now actively preserving and lifting their father’s legacy, particularly through cultural and creative projects.

He concluded with a reflective note, reminding guests that life is short and that one’s roots should never be forgotten.
