Interpol has issued a red notice for the arrest of Indonesian oil tycoon Mohammad Riza Chalid, popularly known as the “gasoline godfather,” over his alleged involvement in a $17 billion corruption scandal, authorities have confirmed.
Riza is wanted in Indonesia for his alleged role in corruption linked to state-owned oil giant Pertamina between 2018 and 2023. The allegations include money laundering and the manipulation of a lease agreement connected to the company.
Speaking late Sunday, Untung Widyatmoko, secretary of Interpol’s Indonesia National Central Bureau, disclosed that the red notice was issued on January 23.
“We can’t specify exactly where he is, but we already know,” Widyatmoko said.
The red notice has been circulated to Interpol’s 196 member countries, requesting global law enforcement agencies to help locate and provisionally arrest the 66-year-old businessman pending possible extradition.
The development marks a major escalation in one of Indonesia’s largest corruption investigations, as authorities intensify efforts to bring high-profile suspects to justice.
