The Bauchi State Government has approved monthly stipends for Imams, Pastors, and traditional rulers across the state, while also uncovering and removing over 3,000 ghost workers from its payroll.
The decision was taken by the Bauchi State Economic Council during a meeting chaired by Governor Bala Mohammed on Friday, January 30, alongside key officials from the finance and revenue sectors.
Speaking after the meeting, the Head of Civil Service, Mohammed Sani Umar, said the stipends will cover Imams of Juma’at mosques as well as clerics from different Christian denominations, stressing that the payments will be made without discrimination. He added that the government is fine-tuning the financial framework to ensure sustainability.
The council also approved the commencement of salary payments for newly appointed Emirs and District Heads, with Umar noting that cash flow arrangements have already been put in place.
Meanwhile, the Governor’s Chief Economic Adviser, Yahuza Adamu Haruna, disclosed that a comprehensive payroll audit uncovered more than 3,000 ghost workers, saving the state over ₦4.16 billion. The audit was conducted in collaboration with Onyx Investment Advisory Limited.
Haruna added that since the state took full control of salary payments in August 2024, complaints over salary issues have effectively stopped.
