Six secondary schools in Gokana Kingdom have met the eligibility requirements for the 2026 All-Ogoni Secondary Schools Football Competition, while eight others are expected to undergo a fresh players’ verification exercise.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the competition disclosed this after conducting a players’ screening exercise at Community Secondary School, K-Dere, on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
The exercise, led by the LOC Chairman, Coach Christian Kpenu, was aimed at confirming that participating players are bona fide students of the schools they represent and are below the age of 17.
Fourteen secondary schools from Gokana Kingdom participated in the verification exercise, but only six successfully met the stipulated requirements and were cleared to participate in the tournament.
The schools cleared are Government Secondary School (GSS), Kpor; Community Secondary School (CSS), Deken; CSS Barako; CSS B-Dere; CSS Mogho; and Bomu Community Secondary School (BCSS), Bodo.
The eight schools that did not meet the verification requirements will be given another opportunity to present new sets of players for screening.
The LOC has scheduled the next verification exercise for Friday, September 25, 2026, in Khana Local Government Area.
The verification exercise is part of the LOC’s preparations for the maiden edition of the All-Ogoni Secondary Schools Football Competition, which is scheduled to commence in October.
The screening is expected to continue across the remaining Ogoni kingdoms as the committee works to ensure that all participating schools comply with the tournament’s eligibility requirements.
