Concerned parents of students in the Dentistry programme of the University of Uyo have staged a protest over the non-accreditation of the course since its inception in 2021.
Under the umbrella of the Forum of Parents of Dental Students, the protesters carried placards with messages including: “Do not normalise extra years for professional students,” “Save the future of UniUyo Dental Students now,” and “We reject unnecessary prolongation of students for our children.”
Speaking during a press conference in Uyo, the Chairman of the Forum, Sunday Elijah, represented by Otuekong Vincent Udoh, called for urgent intervention to protect the academic future and professional prospects of the affected students.
The parents expressed fears that the continued delay in accreditation could negatively impact the students’ graduation timeline and career progression.
