Ezeugwu was detained at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Enugu, where she was required to answer accusations made in a petition that Okwudu was said to have submitted.
Joy Ezeugwu, a student nurse from Enugu State, was taken into custody by Nigeria Police Force officers after she revealed unsanitary conditions at the Uwani General Hospital in Enugu in a widely shared video.
On Monday, May 4, 2026, Educare's CEO, Alex Onyia, announced Ezeugwu's arrest in a series of posts on X (previously Twitter), stating that Ezeugwu was taken into custody early on Monday.
“Joy Ezeugwu has been arrested this morning by a team from Police Force Headquarters Annex, Enugu,” Onyia wrote.
“They were sent by her former school’s (Ezzy International College of Nursing Science, Akpuoga) administrator, Ifeyinwa Peace Okwudu.
“Students and staff oppression have now become a norm. We will dismantle it.”
In a follow-up post, Onyia revealed that Ezeugwu was being held at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Enugu, where she was made to respond to allegations contained in a petition reportedly filed by Okwudu.
“We are currently at Police Force Headquarters Annex (FCID), Enugu,” he wrote.
“Joy Ezeugwu is currently writing a statement responding to claims made by Ifeyinwa Peace Okwudu in her petition.
“Ifeyinwa is doing everything to destroy Joy, but it will fail. She is demanding N10 million for emotional and psychological damage from Joy Ezeugwu.
“Ifeyinwa Peace Okwudu is such a tyrant and must be dealt with. Oppressing students and staff has become a norm in our institutions, and we must dismantle it.”
In another post, Onyia shared a photograph of the school administrator, intensifying accusations against her.
“This is Ifeyinwa Peace Okwudu. The school administrator for Ezzy Nursing College, Enugu,” he wrote.
“She earlier suspended Joy Ezeugwu indefinitely for speaking against the rot in Uwani General Hospital, Enugu.
“She then arrested Joy Ezeugwu this morning and [she is] demanding N10 million for emotional and psychological damage.
