In a recent interview on TVC News, Baba Yusuf, strategist, Policy Advisor Group, and CEO of Global Investment & Trade Co., spoke on internal tensions within Nigeria’s opposition politics and the growing exchanges between supporters of major political figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During the interview, Yusuf stated, “It is worse for the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya to insult Atiku Abubakar.” He made the remark while addressing rising political rhetoric among supporters of different opposition blocs and the potential impact on coalition-building efforts.
He referenced Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, noting that both men command strong and loyal grassroots movements that have become increasingly vocal in Nigeria’s political space.
Yusuf also highlighted Atiku Abubakar as a key national figure whose long-standing presence in presidential politics continues to shape opposition dynamics across the country.
According to him, while political competition and debate are normal in a democracy, insults and internal hostility among supporters of opposition leaders could weaken the broader goal of forming a united front against dominant political structures.
He explained that the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements represent some of the most energetic grassroots political bases in Nigeria today, but warned that their strength must be channelled toward constructive engagement rather than division.
Yusuf further stated that opposition politics in Nigeria requires careful coordination among leading figures, especially as the 2027 elections approach and discussions around possible alliances intensify.
He noted that Atiku Abubakar remains a major reference point in national politics due to his experience and repeated participation in presidential contests, making him a central figure in any serious opposition negotiation.
