Akure, Ondo State — Just days after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oluwalade Babatunde, popularly known as Babatee, has been announced as the Youth Leader of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ondo State.
Babatee’s emergence marks a significant political shift within the state’s youth leadership landscape, coming on the heels of his active involvement and long-standing roles within the PDP structure in Akure South.
Before his departure from the PDP, Babatee served as Secretary of Ward 8 and also held the position of Secretary to all Secretaries in Akure South Local Government. His political résumé within the party further includes serving as a Unit Coordinator and as Chairman of Students and Youths for the 2023 PDP Presidential Campaign Committee.
In addition to his party responsibilities, he previously worked as Media Aide to the Ondo State House of Assembly member representing Akure South Constituency 1, where he was involved in communications and public engagement efforts.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Babatee described his new role as “an opportunity to build a more inclusive and youth-driven political structure in Ondo State.” He emphasized the need for fresh ideas, unity among young people, and active participation in governance.
Political observers in Ondo State say his defection and swift appointment could influence youth mobilization ahead of future political activities, especially given his grassroots experience and organizational background.
While the PDP in Akure South is yet to officially respond to his exit, some party insiders suggest his departure may create a vacuum in youth coordination within the ward and local government structure.
As Youth Leader of the NDC in Ondo State, Babatee is expected to spearhead initiatives aimed at engaging young people in political processes, advocacy, and leadership development across the state.
