If Goodluck Had Sentenced Adekunle Gold to Prison Then, His Career Would've Been Dead by now - Ossai Success

Ovie Success Ossai, the Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Media, has criticised singers Adekunle Gold and Simi over the imprisonment of an X user identified as Swanky following a controversial social media post involving their daughter.

In a post on his X handle on Sunday, May 17, 2026, Ossai expressed disappointment over the decision to pursue legal action that eventually led to the sentencing of the social media user to two years imprisonment.

He argued that although the action of the defendant was condemnable, mercy should have been considered in handling the matter.

Ossai also referenced a 2012 social media post allegedly made by Adekunle Gold against former President Goodluck Jonathan, claiming the singer was not arrested at the time despite the controversial nature of the statement.

He maintained that if legal action had been taken against the singer then, it could have negatively affected his career.

Ossai wrote, "I am disappointed in Adekunle Gold and his wife Simi for arresting and sentencing X user “Swanky” to 2 years’ imprisonment over a tweet wishing harm against their daughter. This is the same Adekunle Gold who wished former President Goodluck Jonathan dead in 2012 but was not arrested. If Goodluck had arrested and sentenced him to prison then, his career would have been dead by now."

Ossai's comment followed reports that a Nigerian court sentenced social media user Samuel Adeboye Adeyeye, popularly known online as Swanky_concept, after he pleaded guilty to spreading false information concerning the daughter of Adekunle Gold and Simi.

Adeyeye was convicted over a viral post on X, formerly known as Twitter, in which he falsely insinuated that the couple’s daughter, Deja, had died.
