A legal practitioner and academic, Alex Ter Adum, has formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Gwer/Gwer West Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
Adum, who was the former Managing Director of Benue Investment and Property Company Limited BIPC nis seeking the office under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the declaration in a statement addressed to constituents, describing his ambition as a commitment to “service” rather than a mere political pursuit.
He said his decision followed “deep reflection and careful consideration,” adding that his aspiration is rooted in what he described as a “higher civic obligation” aimed at aligning governance with accountability and purpose.
Outlining his legislative agenda, Adum said his approach would be guided by three core pillars: legislation, oversight, and representation.
On lawmaking, he pledged to prioritise clarity, relevance, and public good, noting that laws should not merely exist on paper but must drive economic growth, ensure justice, and improve the welfare of citizens.
Speaking on oversight, the aspirant emphasised the need for diligence and independence in monitoring government activities, stressing that accountability should be routine in public service.
He also underscored the importance of effective representation, promising to maintain close engagement with constituents and ensure their voices are consistently heard in decision-making processes.
Adum further stated that beyond legislative duties, he would focus on building strategic networks to attract opportunities, partnerships, and development initiatives to the constituency.
He promised to institutionalise accessibility and establish regular constituency forums to enhance transparency, feedback, and civic participation.
Describing his campaign as a call for a “paradigm shift,” Adum said his vision is to promote a style of politics driven by responsibility, results, and active citizen engagement.
The aspirant concluded by expressing confidence that, with the support of the people, the constituency could achieve meaningful and impactful representation at the National Assembly.
