According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Friday, May 15, 2026, prominent cleric Primate Elijah Ayodele has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to place complete trust in northern governors as preparations for the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum.
In a statement issued through his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, the cleric warned that the political backing currently being projected may not be as reliable as it appears.
Ayodele expressed concern that some political figures in the North could be pursuing personal ambitions that may eventually conflict with Tinubu’s expected re-election plans. According to him, the apparent unity among certain governors may not reflect their true intentions or long-term political loyalty.
He stated that shifting political interests and evolving alliances could weaken existing support structures if not carefully managed.
The cleric also cautioned the president to pay close attention to developments within his political camp, stressing that internal party dynamics can change rapidly and unexpectedly.
According to him, a failure to properly monitor activities within the ruling political structure could expose the president’s camp to avoidable political setbacks ahead of 2027.
Ayodele further predicted that upcoming party primaries across different political parties would produce major political surprises and alter the fortunes of several influential politicians.
He noted that the internal contests may not favour some powerful political figures currently seen as secure in their positions, adding that the ruling All Progressives Congress could also experience unexpected shifts during its candidate selection process.
“A lot of people will cry, powerful people will fall across political parties, including the APC. Not all the people following Tinubu and singing on your mandate will survive it,” he stated.
The remarks come amid increasing political consultations and realignments ahead of the 2027 elections in Nigeria.
