When we're forming APC, I Know how many times Tinubu met with me and Said I Was courageous - Amaechi

A former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has sparked renewed political debate following remarks he made about Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during a major political gathering in Abuja.

The comments came to public attention after a video of the event was shared on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, by ARISE NEWS via its official X (formerly Twitter) account.

The footage captured Amaechi addressing a large audience at the National Convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he reflected on his past relationship with the president.

In his speech, Amaechi revisited the period leading up to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a political coalition that played a pivotal role in reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.

He recounted a series of interactions with Tinubu during that time, describing how the now-president had repeatedly commended him for his courage and political influence.

According to Amaechi, Tinubu had, on several occasions, praised his contributions and acknowledged the strength he brought into the political space during the APC’s formative years.

He suggested that their relationship at the time was marked by mutual respect and recognition.

However, the former minister expressed disappointment over what he described as a noticeable shift in Tinubu’s attitude since assuming office. He told the gathering that he finds it surprising that the same leader who once spoke highly of him now appears indifferent.
