After expressing her controversial opinions about what she refers to as "princess treatment" in relationships, a young woman sparked intense internet backlash.
The woman claimed in a now-viral article that sharing experiences, money, or space with a man does not satisfy her need for special treatment.
Her remarks coincide with discussions about contemporary expectations for relationships, especially among young individuals who are redefining independence and partnership.
Similar arguments emerged in 2023 when conversations about financial independence and the "soft life" took over social media.
“Anything shared with a man is not princess treatment. If he gets an apartment and you’re both living there, even if he’s paying the bills, that’s still not it because he’s benefiting too. I don’t want to wake up to a man in my space, hearing him brush his teeth or make coffee—it irritates me. That’s not the kind of life I want,” she said.
The woman went on to say that independence, personal space, and financial liberty are the main components of her concept of luxury in a partnership. True "princess treatment," she maintained, entails privileges without compromise or shared responsibilities.
“Princess treatment is when a man gets you your own place in your name without living there. Even vacations don’t count for me because if I travel with a man, I’m tied to him and his expectations. That’s not freedom. Either fund my trip or let me be. If he can’t do more for me than I can do for myself, then it’s not worth it,” she added.
Her comments have continued to elicit conflicting responses, with some endorsing her independence position and others denouncing it as impractical.
