Federal Government Bans Importation of 17 Goods in Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has placed a ban on the importation of 17 goods into the country as part of its 2026 fiscal policy and tariff changes.

The new directive, signed by the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, affects products mostly coming from countries outside ECOWAS.

Some of the banned items include bagged cement, frozen poultry, sugar drinks, soaps, detergents, tomatoes, medicines, fertilizers, ballpoint pens, and more.

According to the government, the move is aimed at strengthening local production, protecting Nigerian industries, and improving the economy.

✅ Pork and beef products

✅ Bird eggs (except for breeding/research)

✅ Refined and crude vegetable oil

✅ Sugar and flavored sucrose

✅ Cocoa butter, powder, and oil

✅ Tomatoes and tomato paste

✅ Sugared drinks and non-alcoholic beverages

✅ Bagged cement

✅ Medicines

✅ Waste pharmaceuticals

✅ NPK fertilizers

✅ Soaps and detergents

✅ Cartons and corrugated paper

✅ Hollow glass bottles above 150ml

✅ Flat-rolled iron and steel products

✅ Ballpoint pens and refills
