The Federal Government has unveiled a new plan to monitor pupils as they transition from primary school to junior secondary school. Under this initiative, the traditional common entrance examination will be phased out and replaced with a Continuous Assessment system that tracks each child’s academic progress from Primary 1 through Junior Secondary School. This approach ensures that students’ performance is monitored consistently rather than relying on a single exam at the end of primary school.
As part of the plan, every student will receive a Learner Identification Number (LIN) that remains with them even if they change schools. This unique ID will help authorities track attendance, academic progress, and identify pupils at risk of dropping out before completing basic education.
Officials say the system is designed to improve data collection, support educational planning, boost retention rates, and ensure more students successfully transition from primary to junior secondary school.
