The Federal High Court of Nigeria has convicted two men for producing and selling fake alcoholic beverages in Lagos State, sentencing them to a combined 40 years in prison.
The convicts — Otuorimuno Nelson Aziakpono (58) and Ikegwuonu Davidson Ikechukwu (28) — were found guilty of manufacturing, possessing, distributing, and selling adulterated and unregistered alcoholic drinks.
According to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the conviction followed an enforcement raid on December 3, 2025, at Kojo Street, Ijanikin, and Vespa Market in Lagos.
Authorities recovered large quantities of counterfeit versions of popular brands including:
• Hennessy
• Jameson Irish Whiskey
• William Lawson’s
• Gordon’s Gin
Officials described the seized products as dangerous, deceptively packaged, and unsafe for consumption.
The defendants were arraigned on eight counts bordering on possession of unwholesome products, manufacture of counterfeit alcoholic beverages, and distribution of fake drinks in violation of relevant laws.
NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health, warning that adulterated alcohol poses serious health risks — including poisoning and death.
The agency urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious products or activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
