Wike Launches Radio Station targeting 666 units ahead of Tinubu re-election bid

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has sparked fresh controversy with the launch of Majority FM 89.5, a radio station widely seen as a political tool to rally support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.

Located within the Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the station raises eyebrows over the blurring of lines between governance, political activism, and media influence in a supposedly democratic process.

In a viral video, Wike is seen touring the facility, inspecting equipment, and interacting with staff—moves critics say are a clear signal that the station is a strategic propaganda platform rather than a neutral broadcasting outlet.

Sources indicate Majority FM will serve as the voice of the Renewed Hope movement, a political group closely aligned with Tinubu, fueling concerns about state-aligned media being used to shape political narratives.

Wike himself left little doubt about the station’s purpose:
“This will take messages from all over the 666 units of Rivers State. We are ready for this job, we are ready for 2027.”

Political observers warn that the move underscores the growing intertwining of political power and media control, raising uncomfortable questions about fairness, influence, and the integrity of Nigeria’s upcoming elections.
