“We Will Not Burden Our People With New Tax Law” – Gov Ademola Adeleke Assures Osun Residents

Ademola Adeleke has assured residents that the newly introduced tax reform policy in Osun State is not designed to impose hardship, but to promote fairness, transparency and sustainable revenue growth.

Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government at a three-day stakeholders’ engagement held at the Centre for Black Culture, Osogbo, the governor emphasised that taxation remains vital for development — but must be implemented with balance and compassion.

According to him, the new tax framework aims to:

🔹 Expand the tax net by integrating more operators from the informal sector

🔹 Improve compliance through transparency and digital innovation

🔹 Strengthen the state’s revenue base without hurting livelihoods

🔹 Protect low-income earners through reliefs, exemptions and reduced rates

🔹 Provide a gradual and supportive pathway for SMEs

Adeleke stressed that the reform is people-oriented, pro-business and investor-friendly, particularly recognising the crucial role of small and medium-scale enterprises in job creation and economic growth.

“Our goal is balance. We want to grow revenue without harming livelihoods and build compliance without eroding public trust,” the governor stated.

The Osun government says the reform is structured to ensure fairness, efficiency and accountability — while funding social services and infrastructure development across the state.
