The United States government has listed no fewer than 79 Nigerians for deportation as it intensifies immigration enforcement against non-citizens with serious criminal records.
The move is being coordinated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as part of a renewed crackdown targeting foreign nationals convicted of violent or major crimes.
According to DHS, the operation prioritises individuals described as the “worst of the worst criminal aliens,” including those convicted of drug trafficking, fraud, assault, robbery, and other serious offences. The agency said the enforcement aligns with the administration’s policy of removing undocumented immigrants with significant criminal histories to enhance public safety in the United States.
In a statement, DHS confirmed that officers are already executing mass deportation efforts, starting with individuals considered high-risk based on their criminal records. While no specific timeline was disclosed, authorities noted that enforcement operations are ongoing.
