Tension rose in Oke-Ere, Yagba West LG Area of Kogi State this afternoon February 9, 2026 following reports that six armed bandits were sighted in the Oke-Ere Forest by local timber operators working in the area.
According to eyewitness accounts, more than five timber operators were present at the time of the sighting. One of the operators reportedly raised an alarm after spotting the suspected bandits, prompting others to flee the area.
Local sources confirmed that while some of the operators have been accounted for, others are currently missing, raising fresh concerns among residents and security stakeholders.
Reports further indicate that local vigilante groups have mobilised and are actively pursuing the suspected bandits within the forest.
Security experts believe the group sighted in Oke-Ere few minutes ago may be the same armed bandits responsible for the recent attack on a forest guard in Koro less than 24 hours ago.
This assessment is based on the fact that the forest corridor links Koro, Ogbe, and Oke-Ere, making movement between the communities relatively easy.
Residents of the affected communities have been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements to local security operatives as efforts continue to track down the suspects.
