Terror swept through Kakafu community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State after suspected bandits launched a chilling midnight invasion, abducting four residents and disappearing into the darkness without resistance.
The attack reportedly struck around 1:30 a.m. Sunday when armed men stormed the quiet farming settlement, unleashing gunfire into the night sky to spark chaos. Startled villagers scrambled for safety as fear rippled through the community.
Sources said the gunmen operated brazenly for several minutes, facing no opposition before dragging away their victims to an unknown location. A forest guard who spoke anonymously said the attackers targeted the remote outskirts of Patigi town at an hour when security presence was virtually nonexistent.
Search efforts began at dawn, with locals combing nearby bush paths, but no trace of the assailants or abductees was found. The kidnapped victims were identified as one man and three females — a mother and her two daughters.
“They didn’t kill anyone. They just wanted to take them,” the source said, noting that the sporadic gunshots were meant purely to terrify residents and ensure compliance.
Shock and dread now hang heavily over the village, with many residents reportedly too frightened to sleep, convinced the attackers may still be lurking nearby.
Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said the command had not yet received official information about the incident but promised updates once details are confirmed.
The latest horror comes amid mounting tension across parts of the state following reports of threat letters allegedly sent by armed groups to several communities, just days after a brutal February 3 assault on Woro town that reportedly left over 200 dead and more than 100 abducted — a wave of violence that has plunged rural areas into fear and uncertainty.
