A Nigerian medical doctor has ignited widespread debate online after claiming that a child’s intelligence depends primarily on the mother.
In a recent video, the doctor argued that intelligence is largely inherited from the mother because the gene(s) responsible for intelligence are carried on the X chromosome and women have two X chromosomes while men have only one.
He went on to strongly advise men to prioritize intelligence over physical appearance or body shape when choosing a wife.
According to him, “the woman you marry is the one whose traits your children will inherit,” so men should deliberately seek out women with high IQ for the future benefit of their offspring.
As an alternative (or additional) way to support a child’s brain development, he recommended feeding children eggs, explaining that eggs are rich in choline; a nutrient that plays an important role in brain development.
The statement has drawn significant attention and mixed reactions across social media.
