A Nigerian man in his early 30s has cried out for advice over what he describes as a troubling financial and emotional situation in his marriage. In a message shared anonymously, he revealed that he has invested over ₦6 million into his wife’s business ventures over the years, yet claims there has been no visible progress or accountability, leaving him frustrated and considering separation.
According to his account, he has been married for five years and the couple is yet to have a child, despite medical checks reportedly showing no health issues on either side. However, he stressed that infertility is not his main concern at the moment. Instead, he says the weight of financial responsibility and repeated failed business investments involving his wife have pushed him into a dilemma.
He explained that he is the primary provider not only for his immediate family but also for his wife’s family. Determined to support his wife’s entrepreneurial goals, he funded her first business venture a few years ago, but it reportedly collapsed within a month.
Not discouraged, he said he gave her another ₦1 million last year to start a new business before traveling abroad. According to him, she has been unable to properly account for how the money was spent. He added that he personally paid for the renewal of her shop rent afterward.
The situation said to be worsened when their house rent expired two months ago. The landlord insisted on a one-year upfront payment instead of six months. While he was still negotiating and trying to raise the funds, his wife suggested he give her the six-month rent money to invest in her business temporarily, promising it would yield returns before the payment deadline. Trusting her judgment, he sent the money.
However, when the time came to pay the landlord, she informed him that the money was no longer available.
