At least four people were confirmed dead following a violent clash between a pineapple fruit seller and a commercial tricycle (keke) rider at Eleme/Oil Mill Junction in Port Harcourt on Friday, February 14, 2026.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred at the busy Eleme/Oil Mill Junction, a major transport hub in the city, when a disagreement broke out between the two men. According to accounts, the tricycle rider reportedly asked the fruit seller to shift his wheelbarrow slightly to allow a passenger board the vehicle. The request allegedly led to a heated argument that quickly escalated.
During the confrontation, the pineapple seller was said to have stabbed the tricycle rider, who died at the scene.
The incident reportedly sparked outrage among bystanders, leading to a mob attack on other persons believed to be from the same northern community as the fruit seller. Four people were confirmed dead before security operatives arrived.
Residents said the area was thrown into panic, with businesses shutting down temporarily as tensions rose. Police later moved in to restore calm, while the bodies were evacuated from the scene.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Rivers State Government nor the Nigeria Police Force had issued an official statement on the incident or confirmed any arrests.
