Five suspected drug traffickers have been arrested in Edo State following a raid by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), during which 563.5 kilograms of skunk were recovered.
The suspects—Murtala Mohammed, 37; Abdulkadir Idris Mohammed, 29; Ufoma Edafe, 40; Anthony Aghati, 46; and Emmanuel Owalu Ekele, 39—were apprehended on Saturday, February 14, when NDLEA officers stormed Yoruba Camp in Olumoye Forest, Edo State.
The operation took place in Ovia North East Local Government Area, a location authorities say has been under surveillance over suspected drug cultivation and storage activities.
NDLEA officials said the seizure represents a significant blow to illicit drug networks operating within forested enclaves in the state, adding that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the operation and possible accomplices.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of preliminary investigations.
