There was a tense moment at a Senate committee meeting when Senator Danzuma Hanga clashed with Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi during a session chaired by Hanga. The meeting was held to review the budget and projects of the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.
In a video shared by Viable TV, the disagreement began after Hanga gave Nwebonyi five minutes to speak. Nwebonyi protested, arguing that another senator had spoken for much longer. He insisted he was being treated unfairly and said he had the right to express his views, especially as a member of the ruling party.
Hanga disagreed, saying that other senators had used their time to ask questions, while Nwebonyi was instead praising the minister. As the exchange became heated, Hanga pushed back strongly against Nwebonyi who had said he (Nwebonyi) is from the ruling party, stating that he had been elected with far more votes and earned his seat through a democratic process. He argued that party affiliation should not be used to intimidate or silence others during official proceedings.
The argument drew attention in the room, especially because the session was being recorded. Senator Ali Ndume later stepped in to calm tensions, reminding his colleagues that they were in a public setting and should treat one another with respect.
