A political pressure group in Oyo State, the Concerned Youth Movement (CYM), has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has effectively collapsed following a court ruling that nullified the party’s national convention held in Ibadan.
The Federal High Court in Ibadan on Friday set aside the PDP convention conducted on November 15 and 16, 2025. Justice Uche Agomoh ruled that the convention violated two existing court orders. As a result, the court barred Ambassador Umar Damagum (Turaki) and other officials elected at the convention from functioning as national officers.
The judge further declared that all resolutions and decisions taken during the convention were invalid, stressing that the PDP can only operate through a caretaker committee until a legally recognized convention is properly conducted.
Reacting to the judgment, CYM said the ruling validated its earlier warnings, describing the Ibadan convention as a pointless exercise. The group mockingly referred to it as nothing more than an “early Christmas party” staged in November.
In a statement, CYM accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of destroying and burying the PDP in the state through his actions and inactions. The group argued that the party is now engulfed in uncertainty ahead of the 2027 general elections and may struggle to field credible candidates.
CYM advised PDP members with political ambitions to abandon the party and defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the move would offer them a fresh platform to pursue their aspirations.
The group also questioned whether Governor Makinde would have handled the situation in the same manner if he were seeking a second term in office. It urged aspirants not to delay but to immediately withdraw from the PDP and align with the ADC.
“With Friday’s court judgment nullifying the Ibadan PDP National Convention, it is evident that Governor Seyi Makinde has finally killed and buried the party through his actions and inactions,” the statement concluded.
