Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has commented on the participation of former All Progressives Congress (APC) members and ex-ministers in recent civil society protests focused on electoral reform. Sowore spoke on Channels Television on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, when asked how he felt seeing political figures he had previously criticized joining activist gatherings.
Responding to the question, he said, “No, you know, look, they’re politicians. And they always act on the side of the divided but as their bread. And so I wasn’t surprised to see them. But we welcome them.” He added, “We welcome the new activists. But you know that they are fair-weather friends to the activist community. You know, they will do this for a little bit. After a while, they’ll move back to their comfort zones.”
Sowore stated that their involvement reflected shifting political interests. “But, you know, it just shows you that whenever their interests are affected, they know what to do. But, you know, when their interest is not affected, they mock those of us who protest.” He continued, “They’ll look at you, you’re wasting your time.”
Referencing specific individuals, Sowore said, “But it’s very interesting to see Amaechi yesterday. He even brought his son and claimed that his son is a doctor who wants to treat anybody that’s injured by the police.” He added, “You know, it’s not a game, you know. But please, just have a hearty laugh wherever you are about our new activist brothers and sisters.”
Sowore also mentioned another political figure. “I saw Lauretta Onoche on the chair there too, you know, who was one of the most rabid supporters of Buhari when Buhari was in power for seven, eight years.” He reiterated his earlier remark, stating, “So, yeah, that’s why I said welcome our new activist brothers and sisters.”
According to Sowore, he had raised concerns with protest organizers about political accountability. “But one of the things I said when I was first invited to the protest, like, you know, I told the organizers on Sunday that it’s also important that these politicians on whom you protest are forced to come and protest for their own, whatever interest it is.”
He concluded, “Because where you get the insults the most from is that they will never protest. They won’t fight for anything. They don’t endanger their lives.
