A tragic incident has emerged from the United States as a 23-year-old British woman, Lucy Harrison, was fatally shot during a visit to her father in Texas.
Lucy, who was from Warrington, was shot in the chest on January 10, 2025, at her father’s home in Prosper, near Dallas.
According to proceedings at the Cheshire Coroner’s Court, the fatal shooting happened shortly after a heated argument between Lucy and her father, Kris Harrison, reportedly over U.S. President Donald Trump, who was preparing for a second-term inauguration at the time.
Lucy’s boyfriend, Sam Littler, told the inquest that the pair had a “big argument” earlier that day. He said Lucy often became upset when her father discussed guns.
The court heard that Kris Harrison, who relocated to the U.S. during Lucy’s childhood, had a history of alcohol addiction and had relapsed that day, consuming about 500ml of white wine. CCTV footage later confirmed he purchased two 500ml cartons of Chardonnay shortly before the shooting. Officers also reported smelling alcohol on his breath.
About 30 minutes before Lucy was due to leave for the airport, her father reportedly took her into his bedroom to show her his Glock 9mm handgun. In his statement, he claimed that as he lifted the weapon, a loud bang was heard and Lucy fell immediately. He said he did not know whether his finger was on the trigger.
Police initially investigated the death as possible manslaughter. However, a Collin County grand jury declined to indict Kris Harrison, and no charges were filed.
The heartbreaking case has sparked conversations about gun safety, alcohol use, and political tensions within families.
