U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that Iran would face a severe U.S. response if Tehran is found to be linked to the FlyDubai co-pilot accused of st@bbing the captain and attempting to crash an Israel-bound flight carrying more than 180 people.
Trump issued the warning on Thursday as investigators worked to establish why the co-pilot att@cked the captain, causing the aircraft to plummet before others on board intervened and the plane was eventually landed safely in Saudi Arabia.
Asked by reporters at the White House whether he had been briefed on possible links between the att@cker and Tehran, Trump said, “We’re working on it right now.”
“I would say the answer, based on what I’m hearing, is yes, but we’re working on it right now,” he added, without providing details on why he suspected Iran could be involved.
When asked whether Washington would retaliate against Tehran if Iran was behind the att@ck, Trump responded, “Oh they’ll be hit, very hard, don’t worry.”
“You just ask them,” he added. “They know what happened. They’ll be hit very hard.”
His comments came as diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the seven-month war appeared to have stalled.
