Manchester City have reportedly been found guilty of 114 out of 115 financial charges brought against the club by the Premier League, according to The Athletic.
The long-running case dates back to February 2023, when the Premier League formally accused City of breaching its financial regulations over a period spanning from 2009 to 2018.
The investigation has taken several years to reach its latest stage, during which Manchester City have consistently rejected the allegations and maintained that the club did not commit the breaches alleged by the Premier League.
City expected to challenge reported decision
According to The Athletic, a verdict has now reportedly been reached, with Manchester City found responsible for 114 of the 115 allegations.
The club is expected to appeal the reported outcome, meaning the dispute could continue through another stage of the legal and regulatory process.
Manchester City, in a statement, stressed that the Premier League proceedings were still ongoing and that significant aspects of the case had yet to be completed.
“The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.
“The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”
Premier League reportedly confident over appeal
The Times has reported that the Premier League is confident in its position and believes it can successfully defend the reported findings if Manchester City launches an appeal.
The case has attracted considerable attention since the charges were first announced, particularly because of the length of time taken to reach the reported verdict.
