....Also Endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu For 2027 Presidential Election
UMUCHIMA, IMO STATE: In a dramatic and unprecedented political resolution, the Ideato South and Ideato North Legislative Councils on Tuesday barred former Imo State Governor and former Senator, Rochas Okorocha, from coming anywhere close to the newly constructed Umuchima Bridge, resolving that he should be kept at least 5 kilometres away from the bridge and, in the extreme case, be declared persona non grata within the designated radius for failing to construct the bridge after 8 years as governor and 4 years as senator.
The resolution was reached during a special joint plenary of the Ideato South and Ideato North Legislative Councils, which held directly on top of the newly constructed Umuchima Ideato Bridge.
At the special sitting, the two legislative councils also adopted Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, as the sole senatorial candidate of Ideato Nation for the Orlu Senatorial District, while also throwing their political weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the 2027 presidential election.
The three-pronged resolution places President Tinubu, Governor Uzodimma and the political future of Orlu Senatorial District at the centre of the extraordinary plenary held at Umuchima.
‘ROCHAS SHOULD STAY 5KM AWAY FROM UMUCHIMA BRIDGE’
In one of the most striking portions of the resolution, the lawmakers resolved that Rochas Okorocha should be restrained from coming anywhere close to a 5km radius of the Umuchima Bridge.
The motion further stated that, in the extreme case, the former governor should be declared persona non grata within a 5km radius of the bridge, accusing him of failing to come to the rescue of the people of Ideato nation when the erosion disaster became critical.
According to the lawmakers, the erosion started as a small ditch at Umuchima but eventually developed into a catastrophic disaster that threatened properties and livelihoods across the area.
They questioned why Okorocha, who served as Governor of Imo State for eight years and subsequently represented the area in the Senate for four years, did not intervene when he had the political authority and influence to do so.
The lawmakers contrasted that history with what they described as the decisive intervention of Governor Hope Uzodimma, particularly the construction of the Umuchima Bridge and the Mgbee-Obiohia-Akokwa-Uga Road.
SPECIAL PLENARY HELD ON THE BRIDGE
The location of the sitting added considerable symbolism to the resolution.
Rather than meeting inside the council chambers, legislators from Ideato South and Ideato North assembled on the newly constructed Umuchima Bridge for the special joint plenary.
The lawmakers deliberated on the development of Ideato Nation, the erosion crisis and the political direction of the constituency ahead of the 2027 elections.
They cited the Umuchima Bridge, the Mgbee-Obiohia-Akokwa-Uga Road and the ongoing reconstruction of the Okwelle-Dikenafai-Ntueke Road, among other projects, as evidence of what they described as Governor Uzodimma's intervention in the area.
UZODIMMA ADOPTED AS SOLE ORLU SENATORIAL CANDIDATE
The councils subsequently resolved to adopt Governor Hope Uzodimma as Ideato Nation's sole candidate for the Orlu Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general election.
The motion declared that Ideato Nation would remain a "No Go Area" for any other senatorial candidate, while specifically taking aim at aspirants from Ideato extraction whom the lawmakers accused of being absent during their parties' primaries but subsequently laying claim to party tickets.
The endorsement was presented as a political reward for what the lawmakers described as the Governor's visible intervention in the area.
TINUBU ALSO GETS IDEATO LEGISLATIVE COUNCILS' ENDORSEMENT
In another major political resolution from the special plenary, the two legislative councils endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC for the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement effectively links the councils' position at the national level with their support for Governor Hope Uzodimma at the state and senatorial levels.
The lawmakers' resolutions therefore send a clear political message ahead of the 2027 elections, placing their support behind President Tinubu for the Presidency and Governor Uzodimma for the Orlu Senatorial District.
‘WHAT NAPOLEON COULD NOT DO, HE HAS DONE’
The motion praised Governor Uzodimma in unusually strong terms, describing him as an "ebullient Governor," "The Lion of the South East," "Political Colossus" and "Great Silent Achiever."
The lawmakers further declared:
"What Napoleon could not do, Uzodimma has done."
They argued that the intervention at Umuchima would remain an indelible mark in the history of Ideato Nation, particularly given the scale of the erosion threat that previously confronted communities in the area.
The special joint plenary has now produced a striking political statement from Ideato Nation.
The councils have simultaneously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Presidency, adopted Governor Hope Uzodimma as their sole senatorial candidate for Orlu, and taken a hard-line position against Rochas Okorocha's presence around the Umuchima Bridge.
The motion was sponsored by Hon. Donatus Ogubuike Ebere, with several legislators listed as co-sponsors, including Hon. Chibuike Eyiuche, Hon. Emeka Orioha, Rt. Hon. Cyprian Obiagwu, Hon. Onyedikachi Amagba, Rt. Hon. John Bosco Ikebundu, Hon. John Eze, Hon. Prince Anumege, Hon. Nze Benedict N. Nsofor, Rt. Hon. Ezomuegbu Obuochi, Hon. Ogbonnaya Ikejiaku, Hon. Ide Oyeje Festus, Hon. Offor John C. and Ohuche Ikemefula.
With the two Ideato Legislative Councils taking these resolutions from the very bridge that has become a symbol of the Uzodimma administration' s intervention in Umuchima, the political message from Ideato nation is unmistakable.
