A Nigerian mother has shared a humorous parenting experience after noticing that her young son has begun copying his father’s unique approach to discipline while playing with his favourite toy.
According to the mother, her husband does not usually resort to fl0gging when their son misbehaves. Instead, he created a designated spot in the house where the boy is sent to sit quietly and reflect on his behaviour.
Father Uses “Naughty Corner” to Discipline Son
The mother explained that whenever their son does something wrong, his father simply instructs him to go and sit in the designated corner.
She described the approach as a non-vi0lent form of discipline, with the boy temporarily losing access to some of his favourite activities.
> “My husband doesn’t believe in fl0gg!ng every time. > > “Instead, he created what I call the Naughty Corner. > > “Anytime our son misbehaves, he’ll calmly say: ‘Go and sit there.’ > > “And off he goes,” she wrote.
She added that while in the corner, the boy is not allowed to watch television, play or move around freely, giving him time to reflect on what led to his punishment.
Son Begins Disciplining His Toy
The mother said the most amusing part of the situation is that her son has now adopted his father’s method while playing with his toy rabbit.
Whenever the child decides that the toy has misbehaved, he reportedly sends it to its own “Naughty Corner” and makes it remain there as punishment.
> “The funniest part is that our son has a toy rabbit, and somehow, he has also adopted his father’s disciplinary methods. > > “Anytime the toy ‘misbehaves,’ he sends it to the Naughty Corner too,” she wrote.
According to her, the child now treats the toy as though it were another member of the household who needs to be disciplined.
‘We Have Two Fathers in This House’
The mother said she found the situation particularly amusing because her son appears to be reproducing the parenting method he experiences at home through his own play.
She jokingly described the scene as having two separate “offenders” serving their respective punishments.
> “So in these pictures, two offenders are separately serving their sentences,” she wrote.
She concluded humorously that the family now seems to have “two fathers” — her husband, who disciplines their son, and the son, who has assumed the role of a father to his toy rabbit.
> “At this point, I think we have two fathers in this house: > > “My husband is the father to our son… > > “And our son is the father to his rabbit toy. > > “See how parenting methods are being passed down from generation to generation…” she stated.
