According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Thursday, July 30, 2026, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said late Wednesday that American forces had completed a new “heavy wave” of strikes against Iran in response to what it described as attempted missile attacks targeting US personnel stationed across the Middle East.
In a statement, CENTCOM said the operation began at approximately 10 p.m. Eastern Time on July 29 and involved coordinated strikes against multiple Iranian military targets.
“At 10 p.m. ET on July 29, US Central Command forces successfully completed a heavy wave of strikes against Iran in response to yesterday’s attempted missile attacks on US forces,” the statement said.
According to CENTCOM, dozens of targets associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were hit during the operation. The targets included military command and control centres, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defence sites, and what the US military described as maritime military capabilities.
The strikes followed an incident on July 28 in which Iran allegedly launched several ballistic missiles toward locations hosting US forces in the Middle East. CENTCOM said the missiles were part of an attempted surprise attack by IRGC forces.
“All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted,” the command stated, adding that no US casualties were reported.
CENTCOM also noted that more than 50,000 American service members remain deployed across the Middle East and are “highly vigilant, focused, lethal, and ready.”
Iranian authorities have not yet issued a full official response to the latest US military action, but Iranian media reported explosions and damage in several areas of southern Iran following the strikes.
Tasnim News Agency said a residential area on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz was hit during the latest wave of attacks. The agency also reported loud explosions in Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan Province, and said the strikes caused power outages in parts of the city.
The developments have further intensified tensions across the region. Earlier on Wednesday, Jordan announced that its air defence forces intercepted five Iranian missiles that had entered its airspace. Shortly afterward, the IRGC claimed responsibility for targeting a US air base in Jordan, though details of the alleged attack have not been independently confirmed.
The exchange of strikes and missile interceptions marks another significant escalation in the confrontation between Washington and Tehran, raising concerns about the possibility of a wider regional conflict involving Gulf states and other US allies in the Middle East.
