UMUAHIA, Nigeria – A barber identified simply as Emeka has been arrested by operatives of the Abia State Police Command after a clay pot allegedly containing human hair and other fetish items was discovered in his residence in Umuahia.
According to reports, the suspect, who is known in the city for his barbing skills, was apprehended on Tuesday after his neighbour, identified as Johnson Ikenga, lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that the barber had threatened him.
Police officers reportedly conducted a search of Emeka's one-room apartment during the arrest and discovered a clay pot stuffed with human hair alongside other items believed to be used for traditional rituals.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted ownership of the pot but failed to explain the purpose of the items or how he obtained the hair found inside.
The discovery has sparked speculation among residents, with some expressing fears that the hair may have belonged to customers who patronized the barber shop. However, there is currently no evidence linking the recovered items to any criminal activity.
The Abia State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident. The suspect was taken to the Central Police Station in Umuahia, where investigations are ongoing.
Authorities are expected to determine the origin of the recovered items and establish whether any offence was committed.
Peoplesmind reports that residents have been urged to remain calm and allow security agencies to conclude their investigations before drawing conclusions.
