The Federal Government has granted a provisional licence to High-Flyers University, Ikere-Ekiti, to operate as a private university in Ekiti State.
The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, presented the licence to the institution's Proprietor, Dr. Busayo Ajayi, in Abuja on Friday.
The certificate, dated June 29, 2026, was jointly signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and the NUC Executive Secretary.
The approval followed the institution's compliance with the commission's requirements for establishing a conventional private university.
According to the NUC, the university will begin academic activities with three faculties, 11 departments, and 15 undergraduate programmes.
The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences will offer Nursing Science, Public Health, Physiotherapy, and Medical Laboratory Science.
The Faculty of Science and Computing will run programmes in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Physics with Electronics, Science Laboratory Technology, and Microbiology.
The Faculty of Social and Management Sciences will offer Accounting, Business Administration, Criminology and Security Studies, and International Relations.
Dr. Ajayi commended the Tinubu administration for fostering an enabling environment for private universities and pledged to assemble world-class scholars to build an institution that would produce globally competitive graduates and improve Nigeria's standing in global university rankings.
He reaffirmed the university's commitment to quality education, research, and innovation for national development.
