ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force has expressed readiness to support the implementation of state police if approved, assuring Nigerians that professionalism, accountability and operational efficiency will remain central to the proposed framework.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, gave the assurance while declaring open a one-day sensitisation workshop on state police organised by the Nigeria Institute of Police Studies (NIPS).
According to the IGP, the workshop is designed to equip officers with the knowledge and capacity needed to participate in discussions on state policing and adapt to future reforms.
He urged participants to share the knowledge gained with officers in their various commands to ensure a common understanding of the proposed changes.
Earlier, the Director-General of NIPS, Professor Olu Ogunshakin, commended the establishment of the Nigeria Police Force Steering Committee on State Police, noting that some of its recommendations have already been incorporated into the proposed State Police Bill.
The workshop forms part of the police force's broader efforts to prepare personnel for emerging reforms and strengthen public confidence in policing across the country.
