The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has donated N100 million and a brand-new Toyota Hilux vehicle to the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security outfit established by Yoruba Nation advocate, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The monarch announced the donation on Tuesday while receiving Igboho and members of the security network during a courtesy visit to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The gesture marks one of the most significant public endorsements yet for the newly launched security outfit, which was created to complement existing security structures across Yoruba communities.
In a statement issued by the Ooni’s Senior Media Officer, Sodiq Lawal, on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, the monarch described the initiative as a timely intervention in the face of growing security concerns across the South-West.
According to the Ooni, community-driven efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property deserve the support of all well-meaning Yoruba people.
He praised Sunday Igboho for what he described as his courage, resilience and unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of the Yoruba people.
The traditional ruler noted that true leadership is measured not by titles but by a willingness to make sacrifices for the common good.
“I commend Chief Sunday Igboho for taking a bold step towards strengthening community security,” the monarch said.
“Protecting our people is a collective responsibility that transcends political, religious and ideological differences. Every initiative genuinely designed to preserve lives and maintain peace deserves encouragement and support.”
The Ooni stressed that ensuring peace and security remains a shared responsibility, urging all Yoruba sons and daughters to contribute meaningfully to the protection and development of their communities.
He maintained that economic growth and sustainable development could only flourish in an atmosphere of peace and stability.
The monarch also appealed to traditional rulers, business leaders, professionals, community associations and other influential stakeholders across Yorubaland to rally behind the Iru Ekun Security Network.
According to him, unity remains the strongest weapon in addressing the security challenges confronting the region.
“Our strength lies in our unity. When we speak with one voice and work together, no force can undermine the peace and progress of Yorubaland.
“This is the time for all lovers of Yoruba culture and heritage to unite for a common purpose,” he said.
The Ooni further described Igboho as a courageous patriot whose contributions to the security of the Yoruba people would not be forgotten.
Responding to the royal gesture, Sunday Igboho expressed profound appreciation to the monarch for the financial support, the donation of the Hilux vehicle and his continued encouragement.
He described the Ooni as a symbol of unity whose leadership, humility and commitment to the Yoruba nation continue to inspire millions of people at home and in the diaspora.
“The Ooni is the father of all Yoruba people worldwide. He is God’s gift to our race,” Igboho said.
“His love for the Yoruba nation, humility and kindness distinguish him among traditional rulers. I have come to receive his royal blessings as we continue our mission of protecting our people.”
Igboho explained that the visit also afforded him the opportunity to brief the monarch on the activities and operational plans of the Iru Ekun Security Network while seeking his continued guidance and royal endorsement.
The Yoruba Nation advocate also revealed plans to convene a security summit involving traditional rulers from across Yorubaland.
According to him, the proposed gathering will focus on developing practical and coordinated solutions to the security challenges affecting communities across the region.
He disclosed that, subject to the Ooni’s approval, the summit would be hosted at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.
Igboho assured that the Iru Ekun Security Network would operate strictly within the provisions of the law while working closely with security agencies, traditional institutions and local communities.
He added that the outfit’s activities would centre on community policing, intelligence gathering, crime prevention and the promotion of peace and security throughout Yorubaland.
