The All Fish Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFFAN), Ondo State Chapter, has elected a new set of executives to steer the affairs of the association and advance the interests of fish farmers across the state.
The election was held during the association’s meeting on Sunday, where members gathered to deliberate on matters concerning the growth, unity and welfare of fish farmers in the state before proceeding to elect a new executive to pilot the affairs of the association.
The exercise produced Ven. Adefila as the new Chairman, alongside other experienced members who will serve in various capacities.
The newly elected executive comprises Ven. Adefila as Chairman, Mr. Aluko Oluwafemi as Vice Chairman, Mr. Lawrence Ogundipe as General Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Seun as Assistant General Secretary, Hon. Adegunlehin as Treasurer, Akinbode Falusi as Public Relations Officer, and Adeniran Olaoluwa as Financial Secretary.
In a statement released to newsmen after the Sunday meeting, the newly elected Chairman, Ven. Adefila, expressed appreciation to members for the confidence reposed in the new executive and pledged to provide purposeful, inclusive and result-oriented leadership.
He said his administration would prioritise the welfare of members, unity within the association, capacity building and the creation of better economic opportunities for fish farmers across Ondo State.
Ven. Adefila said the new executive would work towards facilitating access to government interventions, affordable financing, quality inputs, improved fingerlings, modern fish farming techniques and wider market opportunities for members.
He also promised to strengthen collaboration between AFFAN and relevant government agencies, financial institutions, research institutions, development organisations and private-sector stakeholders in order to attract more support and investment into the aquaculture sector.
According to him, fish farming has enormous potential to contribute to food security, employment generation and economic development, adding that farmers must be adequately supported and equipped to maximise the opportunities in the sector.
The chairman further disclosed that training and capacity development would form an important part of his administration’s agenda, with emphasis on modern production methods, proper farm management, disease control, quality feed management and other practices capable of improving productivity and profitability.
Ven. Adefila also promised stronger advocacy on issues affecting fish farmers, including the high cost of feeds and other inputs, access to finance, electricity, water, taxation, market access and other production related challenges.
He called on all members of AFFAN Ondo State Chapter to support the new executive and work together in the collective interest of the association, stressing that unity and cooperation would be essential to achieving meaningful progress.
The chairman assured members that the new leadership would remain accessible, transparent and committed to building a stronger association that would effectively represent the interests of fish farmers across Ondo State.
He congratulated all members on the successful conduct of the election and urged everyone to embrace the new administration as the association begins a new chapter focused on growth, unity, welfare and sustainable development.
