Officers and Men of the Ekiti State Police Command took to the streets of Ado Ekiti to warn youths against thuggery

The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Michael Falade has urged youths in the state to reject political and digital thuggery, warning that violence, cyberbullying, misinformation and political manipulation could undermine their future and the peace of society.

CP Falade gave the charge during his address at a Youth Awareness Walkathon organised to commemorate the 2026 International Youth Day in Ekiti State, with the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

Officers and men of the command had moved round the city of Ado Ekiti to create awareness on the danger inherent in thuggery and cyber bullying.

The Commissioner said the event was a demonstration of the collective commitment of the youths, security agencies and other stakeholders to building a peaceful, responsible and prosperous society.

He particularly urged youths to embrace the national campaign, “My Future Is Greater Than Political and Digital Thuggery,” stressing that their energy and talents should be channelled into productive ventures rather than violence and activities capable of threatening public peace.

Falade also cautioned youths against the irresponsible use of social media, urging them to verify information before sharing it and to use technology as a tool for promoting peace and development.

He emphasised the need for youths to always remember the message, “Think Before You Click, Verify Before You Share,” saying responsible use of digital platforms would help prevent the spread of misinformation and online conflicts.

The Commissioner commended youth organisations, students, NYSC members, traditional and community leaders, government representatives, the media and police personnel for participating in the walkathon.

He urged the participants to sustain the spirit of unity, responsibility and peaceful engagement beyond the International Youth Day celebration.

Falade said the Police Command remained committed to working with youths and other stakeholders to promote peace, security and a safe environment for all residents of Ekiti State.

He called on the youths to become agents of peace and development, stressing that a secure future could only be achieved through collective responsibility and positive engagement.

In a remark, the Chairman, Nigeria Youth Congress, Mr. Temitope Adedara commended the police for the initiative and promised to continue to partner the command to guide youths against criminal activities.
