A Nigerian nurse, identified as Nurse Precious, has celebrated becoming a permanent resident of the United Kingdom after successfully obtaining Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) at the age of 27.
Sharing the milestone on Facebook, Nurse Precious revealed that she relocated to the UK in 2021 at the age of 23 on a Skilled Worker visa after qualifying as a registered nurse in Nigeria.
Reflecting on her journey, she disclosed that five years later, she has now secured permanent residency while working as a registered nurse in a London prison.
Announcing the achievement, she wrote:
“Five years later, at 27, that same nurse — now a Registered Nurse working in a London prison — has successfully obtained ILR through that same Skilled Worker route.”
Describing the milestone as life-changing, she explained that she no longer has to worry about visa renewals or employer sponsorship.
“NO MORE WORK VISA RENEWALS. NO MORE EMPLOYER SPONSORSHIP. NO MORE IMMIGRATION STATUS TIED TO MY JOB. NO MORE TIME LIMIT ON MY STAY IN THE UK. NO MORE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS WAITING FOR WORK-VISA DECISIONS.”
Nurse Precious also revealed that she completed the entire ILR application process herself without hiring a solicitor.
“Yes — I DID THIS ILR APPLICATION MYSELF,” she wrote.
She added:
“I can change jobs freely, work for different employers, become self-employed, build my own business and chase BIGGER OPPORTUNITIES & MORE MONEY without first asking: “But do they sponsor?”
“I’m going to share the nursing, career & immigration experiences I’ve actually lived through — the wins AND the stressful parts – because somebody coming behind me may learn something from them…”, she said.
