The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Community Affairs on Monday expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of projects executed by the Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) following a physical assessment of key development initiatives across the council.
The inspection formed the second phase of the committee's 2026 statutory oversight exercise, following an earlier presentation of the council's scorecard through documentary videos and a PowerPoint presentation.
Led by its Chairman, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, the committee commenced the inspection at the ongoing 504-capacity Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre at Ganyingbo, being constructed by Selovian International Ltd.
Briefing the lawmakers, the company's Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Banji Olaoshebikan, explained the scope and unique features of the project, assuring the committee that the facility would be delivered in line with approved specifications and quality standards.
The lawmakers also inspected the ongoing perimeter fence, modern gate and renovation of classroom blocks at L.A. Primary School, Apa, before assessing the council's Free Holiday Tutorial and Coaching Programme. Beneficiaries told the committee that the programme was free and operated simultaneously at Salvation Army Primary School, Boglo, and L.A. Primary School, Apa, serving students across the Seme and Owode-Apa axes.
The committee equally visited Methodist Primary School, Sawa, where it inspected the completed perimeter fence and renovated school building, before proceeding to the ongoing 30-bed Primary Health Centre at Asheri, being executed by Lukade Construction Nigeria Ltd.
The contractor's Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Lukmon Adewuyi, informed the lawmakers that the facility would comprise a doctors' lodge, pharmacy, consulting rooms, wards and other essential components required to provide quality primary healthcare services.
Speaking after the inspection, Okanlawon said the projects physically inspected reflected what had earlier been presented to the committee, commending the council for its commitment to quality service delivery.
"What we have seen today is consistent with the presentation made to the committee. The projects are visible, impactful and are progressing satisfactorily. We are particularly impressed with the ongoing CBT Centre, which remains a landmark investment capable of transforming education and digital opportunities for our young people."
He urged the council to sustain the pace of development and ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects, adding that the CBT Centre should also serve as a hub for training youths in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, Web Design, Software Development and other ICT-driven skills capable of creating jobs and reducing poverty.
Responding, the Executive Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, Hon. Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren (RIKAY), appreciated the committee for its objective assessment and assured members that all ongoing projects would be completed in line with approved specifications and timelines.
He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to investing in education, healthcare, infrastructure and human capital development to improve the quality of life of residents.
The inspection was witnessed by the Vice Chairman, Princess Sesi Ogungbe; the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Nathaniel Johnson; the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Johnson Ajaneson; the Council Manager, Engr. Akande Lawrence; members of the Executive Council, councillors and management staff of the council.
