The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Community Affairs has commended the Executive Chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren, for his administration's developmental strides, describing the council's ongoing 504-capacity Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre as an "iconic project."
The commendation came during the committee's 2026 statutory oversight engagement, where the council presented its scorecard through documentary videos and a PowerPoint presentation.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon, described the CBT Centre as a strategic investment in the future of education and youth development, urging the council to expedite its completion.
He said the committee looked forward to returning to Badagry West for the official commissioning of the facility.
Okanlawon added that beyond serving as a centre for Computer-Based Tests, the facility should be utilised as a digital hub for training youths in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, Web Design, Software Development and other ICT-related skills capable of creating employment opportunities and reducing poverty.
Earlier, Yemaren presented a comprehensive overview of projects and programmes executed within the first year of his administration, spanning infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, tourism, water supply and social welfare.
The projects include the ongoing 504-capacity CBT Centre at Ganyingbo, construction of a two-storey Primary Health Centre at Asheri, construction of Asheri Road with a mini bridge and culverts, a solar-powered community water project, perimeter fencing of public primary schools, renovation of the Police Post at Sakpo Suntan Beach, tourism infrastructure development at Sakpo Suntan Beach, as well as the presentation of official vehicles to councillors and other top government functionaries to enhance service delivery.
The chairman also highlighted people-oriented programmes, including the distribution of over 10,000 exercise books and school uniforms, free medical outreach, women empowerment initiatives, food palliative distribution and other social intervention programmes.
Members of the committee expressed satisfaction with the administration's performance, describing the projects as impactful and beneficial to residents.
Responding, Yemaren thanked the lawmakers for their commendation and valuable recommendations, assuring them that his administration would continue to prioritise infrastructure development, quality healthcare, education, digital innovation and human capital development.
Okanlawon said Badagry West LCDA was the 57th and final Local Government/Local Council Development Area visited by the committee as part of its 2026 statutory oversight exercise.
He commended the council for its hospitality and cooperation, noting that the committee was pleased to conclude the statewide oversight tour on a positive and encouraging note.
The session ended with a closing prayer led by Yemaren, an Islamic cleric, who also offered special prayers for members of the committee, seeking divine guidance, wisdom and safe travels as they concluded the year's oversight exercise.
