Big Brother Naija has introduced a new twist for its 11th season, changing the way the competition will play out for two housemates.
During Monday’s live show, organisers announced Aikou and Flora as the first housemates to take on The Gambit, a role being used for the first time in the history of the reality show.
The new format guarantees one male and one female housemate a place in the grand finale from the beginning of the season. However, that advantage comes with a difficult sacrifice.
Once chosen, The Gambit housemates are no longer eligible to win the show’s ₦160 million grand prize, the biggest cash reward ever offered on BBNaija.
Aikou and Flora were selected through a public vote after viewers were asked to choose one male and one female housemate for the role.
Head of House Chimsom Chuka was exempt from the voting process.
Although they have secured places in the final, both housemates will continue living in the house alongside the other contestants.
They will take part in the weekly tasks, arena games, sponsored challenges and every other activity throughout the season.
They will also remain eligible for rewards attached to those tasks, even though they cannot compete for the grand prize at the end of the show.
According to the organisers, The Gambit housemates will also be given special assignments every week, adding another layer to the competition.
While details of those assignments have not been revealed, the new role is expected to influence the direction of the game as the season progresses.
The introduction of The Gambit marks one of the biggest format changes in BBNaija since the reality show began in Nigeria.
Rather than focusing only on weekly nominations and evictions, this season opens with a decision that forces contestants to weigh security against the ultimate reward.
The twist has already divided opinion among viewers.
While some believe a guaranteed place in the finale is an opportunity too good to pass up, others argue that reaching the final means little if it comes without the chance of walking away with the N160 million prize.
BBNaija Season 11, themed “Show Ya Sef,” premiered on July 26 with 24 housemates competing for the record prize money.
The introduction of The Gambit is the first major change to the competition, with more twists expected as the season unfolds.
