Peter Obi Donates N10 Million to Cross River Mission Hospital, Calls for Greater Healthcare Investment

Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has donated ₦10 million to the Catholic Maternity Hospital, Moniaya, in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, describing the decades-old mission hospital as a lifeline for thousands of women and newborns in the region.

Obi, who visited the facility on Sunday after travelling from Enugu to Ogoja/Yala, said the hospital remains virtually the only maternity hospital serving the entire Ogoja area despite operating with limited resources. He also noted that the hospital runs a Tuberculosis and Leprosy Centre, providing critical healthcare services that are becoming increasingly scarce.

Expressing concern over Nigeria's high maternal and infant mortality rates, Obi said the country must prioritise investments in healthcare and education to save lives and improve national development. He called on governments at all levels, the private sector, and well-meaning Nigerians to support mission and faith-based hospitals, describing them as vital partners in delivering quality healthcare to underserved communities.
