The Presidency has provided additional details on the rescue of the pupils and teachers who were abd¥cted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, eight of the k!dnappers have been arrested and are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), while several others were neutralised during the rescue operation.
Onanuga stated that no concession or exchange was made with the k!dnappers to secure the victims' release.
He also disclosed that the alleged kingpin whose release was demanded by the abd¥ctors was neither freed nor spared, stressing that he remains on trial for offences linked to t3rrorism.
Onanuga wrote:
“Updated: in the course of the rescue operation, eight of the k!dnappers were arrested and are now in DSS custody, while some of them were neutralised. There was no quid pro quo in the rescue as one of the terrorists, a kingpin, that the k!dnappers demanded his release, is being prosecuted for his atrocities. The security agencies will give full account soon.”
The Presidency added that security agencies are expected to provide a comprehensive account of the operation in due course.
